1 in 3 Children is Overweight - About 1 in 6 is Obese
Dr. Gerald Berenson estimates that American children get 38% percent of their calories from fat – the wrong type. Unused calories from sugar is
stored as fat. Since most children's diets are too high in calories, saturated and trans fat, and sodium, one-quarter of kids between the ages of
5 and 10 have high blood pressure, elevated blood cholesterol levels, or other early warning signs for heart disease. (Center for Science in the
Public Interest, Guidelines for Marketing Food to Kids Proposed, January 5, 2005)
Type II Diabetes is Increasing in Children
One in three American children born in the year 2000 will go on to develop diabetes. (U.S.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, June 2003) If you go back 20 years, about 2% of all cases of new onset diabetes (type 2) were in
people between 9 and 19 years old. Now it's about 30% to 50%. (Dr. Gerald Berstein, past president of the American Diabetes Association,
endocrinologist at Beth Isreal Medical Center in New York City)
Average Sugar Consumption Per Person is 275 Pounds Per
Year
Many kids eat more. ADD/ADHA, allergies, depression, auto-immune, and early signs of heart
diseases are reaching epidemic levels - Doctors are finding plaque build-up in 30% of young children - Over 80% are deficient in Magnesium, an
essential mineral for the nervous system - Americans (kids included) may ingest about 15 pounds of artificial additives per
year.
Kids Tend to Overeat Due to the Lack of Nutrient Support in their Daily
Diet
Paul Stitt; biochemist, food scientist, and author of Beating the Food Giants says
that only when 51 nutrients are present will a person have that "full" feeling.
FOOD NUTRITION FACTS
Sugar
It is both nutrient-empty and fattening. 9 to 12 teaspoons per soda is common. Many cereals
eaten by children contain about 3 teaspoons per ounce. There are no nutrients in sugar. Research has shown that large amounts of simple sugar
can literally stun the immune system for several hours. ( Natural Health, Shaking Off Sugar, Stephen Byrnes, N.D., R.N.C.P. , 1999)
Soda
Two cans of soda (which together typically contain 20 to 24 teaspoons of sugar) reduce the
efficiency of white blood cells by 92 percent - an effect that lasts up to five hours." (Kenneth Block, M.D., expert in nutritional and
evnrionmental health)
Artificial Sugars
Artificial sweeteners/sugar can actually be worse for your kids than pure cane sugar.
Research has suggested that some negatively impact brain cells, the nervous system, reduce bone density, and promote weight gain. (Reported by
Fred Pescatore, M.D., Dr. Marshall Gilula, Norm Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., Russell L. Blaylock, M.D.)
Bad Fats
On average, 36 percent of the caloric content of food in today’s kids’ diets is fat,
according to Dr. Gerald Bereson. And it is mostly the disease-causing bad kind (trans and hydrogenated fats). Bad fats are void of
life-giving nutrients.
Artificial Additives
Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, preservatives, flavorings, bleaches,
dyes, and more. Research has shown some are harmful to our bodies, including our brain, according to Dr. Russell Blaylock,
Excitotoxins. Young developing minds are the most vulnerable.
Vegetables and Fruits
In today's busy world, vegetables and fruits are virtually "missing in action" in our
diets. It has been reported that 96 percent of kids ages 2 to 12 rarely or never eat five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. according
to the 5 A Day for Better health Program. Most eat no more than one; some eat none. The number one “vegetable” eaten by
kids is the trans-fat and sodium-filled french fry. Yikes! In some studies, ketchup shows up as number two.
YOUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER
Our bodies need healthy fuel to function properly. So take the time to learn how to
properly fuel your kids' bodies so they may be productive, positive, healthy people. Feed them right so they may reach their goals and
realize their dreams. Fill them up with nutrient-filled, God-made foods for their God-made bodies.
